The work on the establishment of the offshore wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Nord is progressing according to plan. Since 20 February, the installation vessel "DEME Innovation" has driven 20 monopiles into the Vesterhav Syd offshore wind farm off Hvide Sande. At the same time, the transition pieces - also called Transition Pieces or just TPs - have also been installed in Vesterhav Syd, so now the foundations are ready for the offshore turbines themselves and the work is ready to move north, Vattenfall says in a statement.
- The installation of foundations in Vesterhav Syd has gone very well. Our overall schedule was to be completed before the end of March, and it seems to be holding. Now we are looking forward to moving forward with the project in the north, says Mathilde Damsgaard, Project Director for Vesterhav South and North at Vattenfall.
The work of driving in 21 monopiles and installing TPs in Vesterhav North off the coast at Harboøre will begin as soon as possible, depending on the weather. The first monopile will be installed in the middle of the future offshore wind farm – that is, in the waters west of Vrist. The work will then move north, and finally the remaining piles will be installed along the coast off Vejlby.
Vattenfall expects the foundation work to last until the end of April, depending on the weather. As with Vesterhav South, the work will take place around the clock, but the driving in itself will take an average of just one and a half hours. This is shown by the experience from Vesterhav South, where between 50 minutes and a little over two hours were spent per monopile.
The offshore wind farms are expected to be in full operation before the end of the year.
