Vattenfall is in the process of constructing the Vesterhav Nord offshore wind farm off Thyborøn. In connection with the offshore wind farm, several onshore facilities are required. The facilities are located in the municipalities of Lemvig, Struer and Holstebro and consist of buried cables and electrical stations. In addition, there is a radar mast at Vejlby, which makes it possible for the anti-aircraft lights on the wind turbines to only light up when there are aircraft nearby.
Energinet received the first permit for the onshore facilities in January 2017, but this permit was later appealed to the Danish Environmental and Food Complaints Board. The complaint did not have a suspensive effect, and Vattenfall and Energinet constructed the majority of the onshore facilities in the period 2018-20.
However, in June 2021, the Danish Environmental and Food Complaints Board made a decision in the case and revoked the original permit from 2017. Since 2021, Vattenfall and Energinet have therefore been working to obtain a new permit from the authorities. It has now come in the form of a §25 permit, also known as an EIA permit, Vattenfall said in a statement.
- We now have §25 permits for the onshore facilities for both Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord. These are two important milestones in the realization of Denmark's next offshore wind farms, says Project Director for Vesterhav Syd and Nord at Vattenfall, Mathilde Damsgaard.
Vattenfall expects work on the foundations for Vesterhav Nord to begin around April 1 and continue through the month. Cables will then be laid from the foundations to the onshore electricity grid, which is planned to happen by the summer. The wind farms are planned to be in full operation before the end of the year.
