It's going well for US President Donald Trump. In recent weeks, he has had one success story after another. Even to such an extent that even CNN, which no one can accuse of being a Trump fan, has to take its hat off.
- Trump appears to be at the height of his political power with the adoption of the political package, read the headline of the political coverage on CNN's online newspaper on Friday.
Because late Thursday Danish time, Trump succeeded in getting his so-called Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) passed. It is a comprehensive package of laws into which Trump and his Republicans have stuffed a large part of Trump's election promises.
There are both tax cuts for the rich and cuts in social benefits and healthcare for the less well-off. There is a showdown with the green transition, there is more military spending and much more.
The Republicans have a majority in Congress, but it is not always a given that they can secure a majority. Because like the other major party, the Democrats, the Republicans embrace a wide range of parties. And the party's congressmen come from very different states with different priorities.
Yet Trump has managed to get the package through after less than six months in the White House, and according to American media, it has gone well.
And the adoption comes right on top of several other success stories. The US Air Force has bombed Iran's nuclear facilities, and this led to a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. The NATO countries have agreed to increase military spending to five percent of GDP, as Trump has wanted. The US Supreme Court has limited the power of federal judges to stop Trump's policies.
Trump was expected to sign the BBB at the White House on Friday shortly before midnight Danish time on US Independence Day. For the occasion, he had ordered a flyover of the presidential residence by planes like the ones that bombed Iran.
