Ørsted has commissioned the onshore wind farm Sunflower Wind, located in Kansas, USA. Sunflower Wind is Ørsted's 13th commissioned wind farm in the USA and can supply more than 70,000 households with electricity. The Danish company announced this in a statement.
- We are pleased to celebrate this milestone and our first renewable energy project in Kansas together with the local community, authorities and landowners involved. With Sunflower Wind, we now have 13 wind farms in operation in the USA, which together produce 832 MW for the Southwest Power Pool electricity market, says David Hardy, Executive Vice President and Regional Director for the Americas at Ørsted.
Ørsted has made great efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in the supply chain and provide access to renewable energy and guarantees of origin from Sunflower Wind to nine companies. In collaboration with Schneider Electric, Ørsted has thus entered into power purchase agreements with Amcor, PepsiCo, Stryker, Citizens and Walmart's Project Gigaton consortium, which includes Amy's Kitchen, Great Lakes Cheese, The J.M. Smucker Co., Levi Strauss & Co. and Valvoline Global Operations.
