Far fewer people want compensation for wind farms

A new design further from land at an offshore wind farm is causing the number of summer homeowners seeking compensation to plummet. 284 owners are now so satisfied they are not demanding compensation again.

Appearance plays a big role, as energy giant Vattenfall has had to see firsthand. The planned coastal offshore wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord have been moved as far from land as possible. In the original draft, 586 summer homeowners sought compensation for a possible loss of value associated with the construction of the wind farms.

The wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord will be located in Northwest Jutland. Vesterhav Nord will start in the North Sea immediately south of Thyborøn and down along the coast. Vesterhav Syd, on the other hand, will extend from up along the coast slightly north of Hvidesande.

The 302 summer homeowners who are still not satisfied with the upcoming offshore wind farms off the coast will receive visualizations and calculations from the Valuation Authority.

How summer homeowners apply for compensation

The process for assessing possible value losses associated with the construction of the two new offshore wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord has now begun and significantly fewer have applied for compensation compared to the park's first design.

Summer homeowners who are seeking value losses will receive visualizations and calculations from the Valuation Authority, which will process the applications and lead the work on valuing the properties.

The valuations themselves take place during visits to each individual property, where the property is inspected, and the impact from the turbines is assessed based on the material from Vattenfall.

The inspection material is expected to be sent out from August. The valuation business will therefore take place outside the peak season for holiday home rentals to ensure the least possible disruption in connection with the valuations.

- We have moved the turbines as far from the coast as possible based on local wishes, which means that the visual impact has been reduced. The visual impact is included as an element in the value loss process, says Arne Rahbek, community and stakeholder manager at Vattenfall.
