Denmark's best vocational school in 2024 is Køge Handelsskole. This is according to an analysis from SME Denmark, which has reviewed companies' responses to the Ministry of Children and Education. SMV Denmark writes this in a press release.
According to the business organization, which represents 18,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperation between schools and companies is crucial for the quality of vocational education.
- What is special about vocational education is that the vast majority of the education takes place at the companies. This requires that cooperation between school and company be prioritized if the quality of the education is to be top-notch,
says Head of Education at SME Denmark Kasper Munk Rasmussen.
The study shows that the best-rated school scores 8.78 out of 10, while the worst scores 7.15. Smaller companies in particular point to poor communication with schools as a barrier.
– It is unfortunate that small companies experience the greatest problems with collaboration, because they are the ones who take on the most apprentices, and they are the ones who are hit hardest when collaboration goes awry,
says Kasper Munk Rasmussen.
He encourages both schools and companies to pay attention to the quality of collaboration. Schools should learn from the best, while companies should carefully consider their choice of collaboration partner.
– Companies must be aware that there may be differences between vocational schools. If a school does not meet expectations, it may ultimately be a solution to change partners, even if the best school is located at the other end of the country,
says Kasper Munk Rasmussen.
SMVdanmark also wants students with special needs to automatically receive support opportunities for their internship.
- Today it is something that the student must specifically ask for, but that should not be the case. It would make a huge difference for the students and in relation to the companies' cooperation with the vocational schools if the support came automatically, so we need to change that, says Kasper Munk Rasmussen.
