HJØRRING / TØNDER: The municipal elections have led to everything from a complete stop to renewable energy to the closure of large renewable energy projects in several places, but in Hjørring, 21 new renewable energy projects are on their way through the application process. And that has led to angry citizens, writes Klimamonitor.
But the three major parties in the municipality - S, K and V - are not shaking their hands. According to the parties, more green electricity is necessary for both the development of business and the welfare that comes with it.
- If we want business development - and we want that - then we have to adopt some renewable energy projects. Companies want their energy locally, said Deputy Mayor Søren Smalbro, when the media interviewed him during the election campaign.
In Tønder, the picture is more or less the same, although not with as many projects as in Hjørring. The municipality is still sending a handful of wind and solar projects forward, even though a majority of citizens in the 22 local referendums voted no, writes Klimamonitor.
According to the chairman of the Climate, Growth and Development Committee, Bjarne Lund Henneberg (SF), the decision is about concluding ongoing cases that have been under consideration for several years. He emphasizes that this gives the new municipal council a clear basis for taking a position on future renewable energy initiatives.
The committee also assesses that the projects can contribute to the municipality's climate and energy goals, and that it is important to ensure that the resources and investments that have already been put into the projects are not lost.
