Green Power Denmark on Energinet's break: The right decision

The organization supports a three-month halt to new grid connection agreements and will contribute to creating an overview of capacity.

Energinet announced on Monday that new grid connection agreements to the transmission grid will be put on hold for three months. In addition, Energinet is extending the processing time for projects in the screening and maturation phase. The measure is intended to create an overview of the capacity in the pressured transmission grid.

The decision to pause is supported by Green Power Denmark, which describes the pause as necessary to clarify the extent of the capacity challenges and ensure a common basis for further work on expanding the electricity grid.

- Energinet is making the right decision by putting connections on hold for the coming period. We need to have mapped out the extent of the capacity challenges and have a common starting point for the further work, to which we are of course contributing constructively, says Jørgen S. Christensen, Technology Director at Green Power Denmark, in a press release.

According to the organization, it is crucial that an overview is quickly created so that larger business customers in particular can continue the electrification of their business. Green Power Denmark also emphasizes that the temporary pause does not include smaller consumers such as households, as their consumption is already included in the grid companies' forecasts.

- It is important to emphasize that the current announcement of a temporary pause for connections does not affect smaller consumers such as household customers. The consumption of these customers is included in the forecasts that the grid companies work from. Now it is about getting an overview as quickly as possible so that large business customers can continue the electrification of their business, says Jørgen S. Christensen.

In addition to the break, Energinet is working on an emergency package that, among other things, will accelerate investments in the interface between the transmission and distribution grid, increase the available capacity in the short term and ensure uniform prioritization in the grid customer queue. Green Power Denmark and the local grid companies will contribute data on customer demand in the coming period.
