Vestas CEO Henrik Andersen will leave Denmark if a wealth tax is introduced for the country's richest, as proposed by the Social Democrats. If the wealth tax is introduced, massive investments and large taxpayers will disappear from the country, according to the CEO. He tells Berlingske.

- I will spend some of my time figuring out where I will live. It cannot be said more clearly, Henrik Andersen tells the newspaper.

He says that if Vestas' CEO moves out of Denmark, "some of Vestas' investment decisions will also move out of Denmark".

Last week, the Social Democrats kicked off the election campaign with a proposal to introduce a wealth tax in Denmark. The Social Democrats' proposal for a wealth tax will mean that around 22,000 Danes will have to pay 0.5 percent in tax on all wealth exceeding 25 million kroner each year.

Henrik Andersen is also concerned about whether the proposal will harm Danish competitiveness. For example, he points to entrepreneurs who move when they have become successful.

Support from the business community

Henrik Andersen is receiving support from the business community's industry and interest organizations. Brian Mikkelsen, director of the Danish Confederation of Industry, tells Berlingske that they are "shooting themselves in the foot".

And at the Confederation of Danish Industry, according to political director Morten Høyer, the wealth tax is "a tax that risks making all Danes poorer".

- It is important to understand that this is not a tax that only affects the richest people. It is harmful that the Social Democrats are going to the polls on the basis of introducing a wealth tax, he has stated in a press release.

Politically, the proposal is divisive. The leader of the Liberal Party, Troels Lund Poulsen, has stated to Børsen that "the Liberal Party will not participate in a government that introduces a wealth tax".

At the SF, leader Pia Olsen Dyhr is going to the polls on the basis of introducing a wealth tax on assets over ten million kroner. She has said this to Information. The political spokesman for the Green Party, Pelle Dragsted, has also previously stated that the Green Party will raise demands for a wealth tax if the party is to give mandates to a red government.
