In the coming years, lots of wind turbines will be set up at sea. This will create a great need for engineers and turbine technicians who can build and maintain offshore wind farms. That is why the Port of Esbjerg and Siemens Gamesa are joining forces to establish a training center at the Port of Esbjerg, writes Wind Denmark on its website.
To kickstart the training center, Siemens Gamesa has gifted the Port of Esbjerg with a part of an offshore wind turbine - a so-called transition piece, which is made freely available to educational institutions at the Port of Esbjerg. The training center is intended to ensure optimal conditions for training future offshore wind turbine technicians at the Port of Esbjerg.
- It is a transition piece that we at Siemens Gamesa have used for our simulations out on the water. Technologically, we have now moved on, and we saw it as a good opportunity to gift the component to the Port of Esbjerg, so that people who want to, for example, to become a wind turbine technician, can try out the real thing, says Anders Midskov, Port Manager at Siemens Gamesa.
A training center at the Port of Esbjerg has been under consideration since Esbjerg Municipality last year started a task force for the green workforce of the future. One of the ideas was to create good training opportunities at the Port of Esbjerg. That is why Port Director Dennis Jul Pedersen is delighted that it is now becoming a reality.
- At the Port of Esbjerg, we have ambitions to become one of the largest ports for the establishment of offshore wind. We are in the process of expanding the infrastructure and we have one of the largest offshore expansions that the world has seen. However, all this is of no use if there is not the necessary workforce. Therefore, we also have to incorporate education and skills, which is what we are now doing with the new training center, he says.
