Denmark is only seven percent of the way towards quadrupling solar and wind energy on land

The rollout of solar and wind energy in Denmark is going very slowly. This is stated by the industry organization Green Power Denmark in their annual energy barometer. 2024 has been the third worst year for the installation of wind turbines on land since 2016. This is written by DR.

- It is discouraging reading. This is a problem from both a security perspective, an economic perspective and not least from a climate perspective, says Director of Renewable Energy Camilla Holbech, who is also Director of Green Power Denmark.
There is also progress in the solar cell area compared to 2023, but still far from the level in 2022. Green Power Denmark shows in their new barometer that Denmark has only reached seven percent of the way towards the goal of a quadrupling by 2030.

The industry organization points to delays in the expansion of the electricity grid and increasing costs for project developers as central reasons for the slow development. The price of connection to the electricity grid has increased, which particularly affects solar projects. The Council for Green Transition proposes financing a municipal development contribution via the electricity tax to promote the rollout. Climate Minister Lars Aagaard (M) has previously, in an interview with Finans, not wanted to set a target for the ambition, but now tells DR that the goal is maintained, even though it is difficult to achieve. According to the minister, this is due, among other things, to changed expectations for future electricity consumption. According to the climate minister, the next step is a strengthened effort to expand offshore wind, although according to him it may be more expensive than previously expected.
