The police presence was at the absolute high end when Olie Gas Danmark opened their Offshore Summit today, even though only a small handful of activists had found their way to the square in front of DR's Concert Hall in the rain.
Inside, deputy chairman Anders Benfeldt had to welcome them, as chairman Martin Rune Pedersen was on sick leave with corona.
This meant that Anders Benfeldt was also able to reveal Olie Gas Danmark's new name, which is now Dansk Offshore. The name reflects that more people in the industry are moving into new areas.
- It is the platform for an industry in change, because CCS will be an important part of the green transition, said Anders Benfeldt.
He also reminded that only two percent of the world's energy comes from green renewable energy sources, before the floor was passed to what is now called Dansk Offshore's director Martin Næsby.
Planning and quick action important
Martin Næsby did not mince words about the importance of advancing CCS technology.
- We must store and capture CO2. We must plan for that and do it immediately when oil and gas wells become empty. That cannot be done if they are left idle, said Martin Næsby.
This is of course also because the organization sees huge business potential in CCS. There were also demands on the legislators.
- We need economic framework conditions to be put in place very quickly, because CCS is already part of the 2030 CO2 reductions. This can only be achieved if legislation is introduced now, concluded Martin Næsby.
In this connection, the director also remembered that Denmark will not become independent of oil and gas right away.
In 2040, 40 percent of our energy in Denmark will still come from oil and gas. So here we must also have a forward-looking plan, said Martin Næsby.
