UPDATED 11:15: There has been a new cable break in the Baltic Sea, writes the Swedish media TV4. The Swedish Defense confirms to the media that it is aware of the information. According to Swedish police, it is being investigated as sabotage, the police write in an email to Aftonbladet.

- A preliminary investigation into sabotage has been initiated so that the police can access the tools needed to clarify what happened, the police write.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson confirms in a post on X that he is aware of the situation.

- I have been aware of information in the media for some time about a possible new cable break in the Baltic Sea, writes the Prime Minister, adding that relevant authorities are investigating the incident.

Kristersson emphasizes that all reports of possible damage to infrastructure in the Baltic Sea are viewed with the "greatest seriousness".

- As I have previously said, it must be seen in the light of the serious security situation in the area.

According to the Swedish news agency TT, it concerns a cable off Gotland. The Baltic Sea is located off southeastern Sweden.

- The suspected cable break is believed to have occurred in the Swedish economic zone off Gotland. It is a cable that runs between Finland and Germany, the coast guard's press service says, according to SVT.

The coast guard has known about the incident since Thursday, but it is unclear exactly when the possible cable break would have occurred, the media outlet writes.

Cable operator Cinia confirms that there has been minor damage to their cable between Finland and Germany, writes Reuters. This is the third time that the cable has been damaged. In November and December, the cable was "completely cut". It is still unclear how the cable was damaged.

According to TV4, the Swedish coast guard has sent a vessel to the location where it is suspected that the cable break occurred.

There is currently a lot of attention on submarine cables in the Baltic Sea after several incidents with damaged cables. In mid-November last year, two underwater cables were damaged in the Baltic Sea - one between Finland and Germany, the other between Sweden and Lithuania. Suspicion was directed at Russia and the Chinese ship "Yi Peng 3", which had been anchored in the Kattegat for several weeks.

And in Finland, the tanker "Eagle S" has been suspected of damaging several cables in the Baltic Sea. In December, Finnish police boarded the ship and had the crew sail it into Finnish waters.
