The North Jutland Police and emergency services are investigating a suspected ammonia leak around a CHP plant at Hjedsbækvej 2 in Støvring on Friday morning. This was reported by the head of the North Jutland Police, Thomas Ottesen, to Ritzau.

The police have cordoned off and evacuated the area and are urging people to stay away. Other residents should close windows and doors.

- We received a report that there was a smell of ammonia and a cloud of steam coming out of the building where work is being done with ammonia. The combination of this means that we are going out and treating it as a leak, says Thomas Ottesen.

There is no time frame for the police to work on the site on Friday morning.

On the Støvring CHP plant website, it is confirmed that there is an ammonia leak. It states that "everyone must stay indoors" and close the ventilation. Ammonia is a corrosive and toxic gas. There is a potential health risk from inhaling ammonia in high concentrations.

Nordjyllands Beredskab writes in a post on the social media X that it is there with ten vehicles and 24 men. It also states that the cause of the spill has been clarified and that it is in the process of shutting it down.
