In April last year, the Port of Aabenraa entered into a collaboration with the international group Linde Gas to investigate the possibilities of locating a PtX plant on the port's grounds in Ensted. The focal point of the PtX project is the establishment of an electrolysis plant that will produce hydrogen from green electricity from, among other things. the offshore wind turbines in the North Sea.
The analyzes have so far proved so promising that Linde Gas has entered into an agreement with the Port of Aabenraa to reserve a large area for the facility, the port states in a press release.
- We have now come a step closer, because the business case is positive and we believe in the project's potential. Therefore, we have just entered into an agreement with the Port of Aabenraa to pre-reserve 180,000 sqm at Ensted. Our agreement defines, among other things, the framework and conditions that will apply to future leasing of the large area, says Ulrik Nielsen, who is Linde's Head of Clean Hydrogen in Denmark.
At Aabenraa Harbour, the pre-booking of the large area at Ensted arouses excitement, as it brings Aabenraa one step closer to a leading position within Power-to-X and sustainable development.
- We are in a completely unique situation, which could not have been foreseen when we started considering the purchase of Ensted in 2015. At the time, the imagination did not reach much further than traditional port operations, because no one had yet started talking about Power-to-X. Today, the fact is that we have all the prerequisites to develop Ensted into a real business cluster within green energy and sustainability, says chairman of the board of Aabenraa Havn Erwin Andresen.
Aabenraa Havn formally took over the port area of Ensted, where Linde Gas' future PtX factory is scheduled to be located, in November last year.
