Electricity consumption by Jutland households increased significantly in February. According to figures from the electricity network company N1, 21 percent of the electricity used was more electricity than in the same month last year. This continues the trend from January, when the company's approximately 815,000 electricity consumers also set a record for electricity consumption. This is stated by N1 in a press release.
According to the company, the increase is related to both the green transition and unusually cold winter weather. February had an average temperature of -0.6 degrees, making it the coldest February in eight years, according to figures from DMI.
- The fact that electricity consumption in households is increasing is entirely to be expected. Fortunately, Danes are very well underway with the green transition, more people are choosing an electric car or replacing their oil boiler with a heat pump, and this means that we have to transport more electricity through our electricity grid, says Lise Bering, CEO of Elnetselskabet N1.
February 3rd was also a record day for the company. Here, according to its own data, N1 delivered 40 GWh to consumers in a day, which is the highest level ever in the company's electricity network. The same day also set a national record for electricity consumption of 159 GWh, according to data from Energinet.
Despite the high consumption, the electricity network did not experience more outages than normal. On average, N1's customers were without power for 1 minute and 3 seconds in February, which is lower than in the same period last year.
- When it's cold outside, we are more dependent on electricity because we turn up the electricity consumption to heat our homes, and because the electric car may not travel quite as far per kilowatt-hour. That is why we are also pleased that we have delivered a secure and stable supply despite such high consumption, because that is ultimately our core task, says Lise Bering.
