US President Donald Trump announces that an oil refinery will be opened in the city of Brownsville, Texas. This is done in a post on the president's own social media, Truth Social.

He also thanks partners in India and the Indian energy company Reliance for investments in the project, which according to him is part of a deal worth 300 billion dollars - 1929 billion kroner. It is not immediately clear whether it is part of a larger deal with India, writes the news agency Reuters.

It is also not stated exactly what role Reliance will have in the project. Reliance is India's largest privately owned conglomerate, and their refinery in Jamnagar, India, is the world's largest, writes the AFP news agency.

- A new refinery at the port of Brownsville will supply American markets, strengthen our national security, increase American energy production, create billions of dollars in economic returns and become the cleanest refinery in the world, writes Trump, adding:

- This is what American energy dominance looks like.

The website for the America First Refining project states that the project is operated by Element Fuels, writes AFP. Element Fuels is a Texas-based startup that plans to build the first new oil refinery in the United States in nearly 50 years.

In 2024, Element Fuels Holdings announced that it would resume work on a large facility in Brownsville, Reuters reports.

According to the company, the facility would be the first refinery built on the Gulf of Mexico since the 1970s and the only one designed to process 100 percent U.S. shale oil. Trump's post did not say when it was expected to be completed.
