Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M) will participate in the royal couple's state visit to Australia, which will take place from 14 to 19 March. The ministry announced this in a press release.
The press release states that Lars Aagaard will accompany the royal couple from 15 to 16 March. The Royal House announced the state visit in January, when it was announced that the couple would be accompanied by three ministers and a business delegation.
However, a general election has since been called for 24 March. This has caused both Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen (V) to stay home.
The Ministry of Defence announced this earlier on Thursday, while the message came directly from Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) in connection with a smaller press conference the same day.
- I will not be attending. I don't think I'll spend the election campaign traveling to Australia, said the Foreign Minister.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told Politiken that it will be Lars Aagaard who "saved" the state visit.
- Lars Aagaard will be the participating minister. Not in the full program, and it's not necessary, although it would be desirable, because there is actually a very large energy footprint in it, he told the media.
Focus on green transition and economic security
The Royal House previously stated that it had been decided to carry out the state visit despite the election announcement. However, with a few adjustments that will be announced at a later date, it was said.
The same applies to the full program for the visit, which has not yet been announced. Back in January, it was announced that the visit is intended to strengthen cooperation between Denmark and Australia in a number of areas - including within the green transition and economic security.
- A strengthened partnership with Australia is particularly important at a time when geopolitical upheavals have economic and security policy consequences that tie developments in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region together, it was said in a press release from the royal house.
