A blade has broken on a five-year-old V136 4.2 MW wind turbine at Hirtshals Harbour, where it now hangs down along the tower. Eurowind Energy received an alarm in its computer system on Wednesday at 9:10 p.m., after which the turbine went into reset mode. The company describes the incident as "surprising", as it is a newer turbine and states that it has not previously experienced similar problems with this type. This is reported by Ingeniøren.
- This is by no means an everyday occurrence, says Joachim Steenstrup, communications director at Eurowind Energy. He says that the cause is not yet known, but denies that strong winds are the explanation.
In the coming days, the damaged blade will be taken down by crane in collaboration with Vestas, and this may end up with all blades on the turbine having to be dismantled. The expectation is that the wind turbine will be back in operation by summer at the latest. The turbine has a capacity that corresponds to the electricity consumption of 20,000 households on an annual basis.
