AABENRAA: The Port of Aabenraa has suddenly become 350,000 square meters larger and has doubled its operating staff. This has happened after the Port of Ensted officially became part of the Port of Aabenraa after the deal was concluded with Vattenfall in early 2020. With the purchase of Ensted, the Port of Aabenraa's total area will be 750,000 square meters.

The takeover marks new times, says the port's chairman in a press release.

- With Ensted, we are taking a seven-mile step into the future, because we are now among the modern ports that have a mix of traditional port activities and completely new sustainable activities, says Erwin Andresen, chairman of the board of directors of Aabenraa Port.

The Port of Aabenraa is the only remaining commercial port in Southern Jutland, and has until now been characterized by traditional port operations, where the primary focus is on goods over the quay, i.e. unloading and loading of goods.

But with the annexation of Ensted Port, the Port of Aabenraa is embarking on new times. For example, the industrial gas company Linde Gas plans to build a large Power-to-X plant at the port.

- We will have the same duality that characterizes modern ports such as Esbjerg, Køge, Aalborg and Aarhus, while we have every opportunity to develop Ensted into a real business and knowledge cluster within green energy and transformation, says Henrik Thykjær, CEO of Aabenraa Port.

The owner of Aabenraa Port, Aabenraa Municipality, has a vision for the port that implies that the port will create 300 new jobs through development in the next five to ten years.
