AARHUS: Despite the corona pandemic, the Port of Aarhus has been busy. Today, the port will lift container number 574,747 over the quay. This corresponds to more than one per minute year-round, and it is the largest number in Denmark ever.

The port is beating its own record from last year, and with 28 days left in the year, it is a record that is being challenged to such an extent.

- This also means that everything we sell for the rest of the year is equal to this year's growth, and I think that is quite impressive in a time of weak global economy, says Port Director, Thomas Haber Borch.

One of the explanations for the significant increase in container turnover at the port is an increasing export of pork to the Asian market. But it is not only the export of containers that has increased, imports have also had a good year, which surprises Thomas Haber Borch.

- I would like to acknowledge that it was not our expectation that this year we would set a record in both the number of imported and exported containers – and especially not when we look at what is happening in some of the other ports in Europe, he says.

The Port of Aarhus is the country's largest container port with a market share of more than 65 percent of the containers traded in Denmark.
