Just days after Pkn Orlen and Northland Power's joint venture identified Vestas as the preferred supplier for the Polish 1.2 GW project Baltic Power, Vestas is close to another gigawatt-class order.
Thus, Inch Cape Offshore Limited, a joint venture between Red Rock Power Limited and ESB, has selected Vestas as the turbine supplier for the Cape Offshore Wind Farm, which will be located in Scottish waters 15 km off the Angus coast in eastern Scotland.
The turbines that Vestas will deliver, if the agreement is finally confirmed, are their upcoming flagship wind turbine V236-15.0 MW. In total, Vestas will deliver 72 of the turbines, which were also the preferred turbine for the Baltic Power project.
- Offshore wind turbine projects are developing rapidly, and Vestas is proud to play a leading role in this expansion with our industry-leading offshore technology. We are honoured to have been selected as preferred supplier to Inch Cape Offshore Limited, says Nils de Baar, Head of Vestas Northern & Central Europe.
Have done business with Vestas before
The parties behind Inch Cape Offshore Limited, Red Rock Power Limited and ESB, are both Vestas customers for onshore wind projects, but this is the first agreement both parties have entered into with Vestas offshore.
- This is another important step in the development of Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, which will be Scotland’s largest single source of renewable energy when operational. Vestas has a wealth of international experience and we look forward to working with the team to deliver this significant project, says a statement from Inch Cape Offshore Limited.
Inch Cape Offshore Limited secured a Contract for Difference in the UK’s fourth CfD award round, which closed on 7 July this year. The company recently announced that it intended to use the Renewables Hub at the Port of Dundee as a pre-assembly site and the Port of Montrose as the project's O&M base.
