Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has signed an agreement for the largest onshore wind project ever. The order comes from Casa dos Ventos in Brazil. The company announced this in a statement on Thursday morning. The total capacity is 1.3 gigawatts (GW). The project will consist of two wind farms.

Vestas first announced the project at the end of February, but at that time it was only said that Vestas had been chosen as the preferred supplier. Furthermore, Vestas did not disclose who the customer was in February. But now the order has finally been confirmed, and Vestas can now also provide more information about the projects.

The Brazilian projects will be built in the northeastern region of Rio Grande do Norte and in the region of Bahia, which is located in the eastern part of the country. The order covers the delivery, installation, operation and maintenance of 168 V150-4.5 MW turbines (Serra do Tigre project) and 123 V150-4.5 MW turbines (Babilônia Centro project) in the two projects.

- We are very proud to work with Casa dos Ventos again and support their ambitious vision of sustainability through our best-in-class energy solutions, says Eduardo Ricotta, who heads the Latin American branch of Vestas.

The turbines are expected to be delivered during the third quarter of 2024 and they are expected to be in operation in early 2025.

Good news after poor accounting

In February, Vestas announced that for the first time since 2013, the company ended up with a loss in its final annual accounts for 2022. The company has been challenged by rising energy costs over the past year and raw materials as well as high inflation and ends up with a deficit of almost 12 billion. DKK for the year.

Here it was stated that the wind turbine manufacturer still expects the activity level to remain lower in 2023 and that inflationary pressure will continue to be high. And this may have a negative impact on revenue.

Revenue is expected to be between 104 and 115 billion. DKK in 2023.
