On February 26, the power went out on Bornholm. The cause of the power outage was a break in the submarine cable that connects the rocky island with Sweden. The submarine cable was damaged by Uni-Tankers' tanker Samus Swan, whose anchor caused such extensive damage to the cable that it led to the power outage.
But Samus Swan is not the only ship that has caused damage to the cable. After Energinet began repairing the cable, it has discovered several previously unknown damages from anchors and trawls, which have not been large enough to cause short circuits. However, they need to be repaired, and therefore a larger part of the cable must now be replaced, writes Søfart.dk.
Energinet does not yet know when the repair of the cable will be completed, and the state-owned company will not disclose anything about how much it will cost to repair the damage to the submarine cable.
