The Taiwanese Hai Long Offshore Wind Project has awarded a major contract to a consortium consisting of Danish Semco Maritime and Vietnamese PTSC M&C.

The consortium, with ISC Consulting Engineers as subcontractor, has thus been selected as the preferred supplier of substations for the Hai Long project.

The contract concerns the design, delivery and commissioning of two offshore substations for the Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 projects, which are to be established 50 km from the coast of Taiwan and deliver more than one GW of wind energy when the projects are ready in 2026.

The agreement is the largest offshore substation order ever awarded from a Taiwanese project. At the same time, it is the consortium's first order and is considered a strategic breakthrough, according to a press release.

- We are very pleased that the parties behind the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project have awarded us this strategically important order. The order gives us a solid foothold in the exciting Asian offshore wind market, which is undergoing rapid development. We are very much looking forward to working on the exciting Hai Long projects and the strategic collaboration with our consortium partner PTSC M&C and the other subcontractors, says Frank Holm, Vice President Renewables at Semco Maritime, in a press release.

The consortium, in collaboration with ISC Consulting Engineers, will start work on the project in the fourth quarter of this year. The installation of the transformer stations will start in 2024, while the final commissioning will be in 2026.
