The threat picture against Denmark is so serious that the government is now raising the sectoral preparedness level against the energy sector to the second highest level, orange.
This is due to the risk that the energy sector may be exposed to sabotage and hybrid attacks. This is reported by Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M).
- We have raised the sector preparedness level for the energy sector to what is called level orange, and that is the second highest level, he tells Ritzau.
The step is taken based on an overall assessment of the risk picture against Denmark, where threats to energy supply could become a reality.
This will tighten the security requirements for energy facilities, which will lead to further monitoring and limited access to the energy infrastructure.
The last time the government raised the preparedness level for the energy sector to orange was when the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline burst, resulting in a huge methane leak in September 2022.
Lars Aagaard points out that at this time there is no knowledge of a specific threat to energy facilities.
- It is important for me to emphasize that this is not an expression of a specific threat to Danish energy supply. But it is based on an overall assessment of the threat picture that raises the preparedness level, he says.
