In the upcoming ScotWind tender round, hosted by Crown Estate Scotland, a new consortium led by Ørsted will bid for seabed areas suitable for the installation of large-scale floating offshore wind installations.

For the upcoming tender, Ørsted has entered into a partnership with Falck Renewables, which specializes in dialogue with local communities on onshore wind projects, and BlueFloat Energy, an expert in floating offshore wind.

The upcoming tender could bring floating offshore wind to scale, thereby helping to create completely new opportunities globally for floating wind energy and open up the possibility of large-scale wind in previously inaccessible areas.

- We recently announced our strategic decision to pursue opportunities in floating offshore wind and drive the commercialization of this technology. Today's announcement confirms Ørsted's commitment to this exciting and rapidly developing technology, says Martin Neubert, CCO at Ørsted, adding:

- By combining our strong competencies in project development, construction and operations with a team that has unique experience in floating offshore wind projects and a strong local presence, we can provide Scotland with an exciting new opportunity.

The new collaboration is of course also a joy for Ørsted's partners - BlueFloat Energy's CEO Carlos Martin is excited about the prospect of combining his own experience with floating wind with Ørsted's extensive experience in operating wind farms around the world.

- Floating offshore wind is an emerging industry, and we are delighted to partner with Ørsted. It strengthens our competencies and creates a consortium that will stand strong in a very competitive ScotWind tender, says Carlos Martin.

BlueFloat Energy has, among other things, helped to realize WindFloat Atlantic, which is the first floating offshore wind project to secure project financing in 2018. The WindFloat Atlantic project consists of three Vestas 8.4 MW offshore wind turbines installed on floating foundations
