On Monday, the Bornholm Energy Island experienced growing pains when a political majority decided that the energy island in the Baltic Sea should have a capacity of three GW instead of the previously planned two. In addition, an electricity cable to Germany must be established, and the project must be completed by 2030 at the latest. Now, a potential candidate is coming forward to develop the energy island in the form of the Danish Ørsted. This is reported by Finans.dk.

- We have had a good eye on Bornholm for a long time and are therefore excited that the Danish politicians have decided to expand the energy island and at the same time commit to its development by 2030, says Rasmus Errboe, Director of Continental Europe at Ørsted, he continues:

- It is very positive, and we therefore expect to apply for permission to make it a reality.

Ørsted's interest in developing the energy island is not exactly surprising, as it was energy companies that were behind the idea of the Danish energy islands at the time.
