New quayside area at Thyborøn Port taken into use for Denmark's largest offshore wind farm

A new heavy goods area of 190,000 square meters in the South Harbor in Thyborøn has been put into use for the storage of large steel structures for the Thor offshore wind farm. 110,000 square meters are already filled with components for the project. This is reported by the Port of Thyborøn.

The areas near the quay are designed with a tailor-made surface and high load-bearing capacity, which is necessary for handling the large and heavy components for offshore wind energy. 221,000 tons of granite chips from Norway have been laid to ensure stability.

The short distance from the quay to the warehouse minimizes transport and optimizes logistics, which is crucial when loading secondary steel components such as work platforms and boat landings for the 72 turbine foundations.

- At the Port of Thyborøn, we pinch ourselves and are extremely proud every time the wind energy industry chooses us for offshore wind turbine projects in the North Sea. The fact that RWE is the first to stock offshore wind farm components in the new heavy goods areas supports the future development of more capacity at the port of Thyborøn, says Tine Jensen Le Breton, Sales and Marketing Manager at Thyborøn Port.

The THOR offshore wind farm will have a capacity of 1,080 MW and will supply electricity to over one million Danish households. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2027, is being implemented by RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management.
