One of Germany's largest onshore wind farms is now entering the implementation phase. Approval is in place, and energy park developer UKA is now ordering 20 wind turbines with a total capacity of 140 MW from Nordex Group.
The wind farm is being built on the Mercedes-Benz test site near Papenburg in Lower Saxony. UKA has completed both the planning and approval processes in a short time since the contract was signed in May 2023. Gernot Gauglitz, managing partner at UKA, says:
- I am proud that as owners of the wind farm of the future, we will supply power to Mercedes-Benz AG for the next 25 years. The project shows that UKA is an attractive power supplier, even for large industrial companies.
Nordex is supplying 20 wind turbines of the type N163/6.X with a capacity of 7 MW each. The hybrid towers, with a hub height of 164 meters, are being built with concrete foundations and concrete elements from Max Bögl Wind AG.
The first test operation of the wind turbines is expected as early as 2027, and when the park is fully operational, it will cover approximately 20 percent of Mercedes-Benz’s annual electricity needs in Germany.
The wind park will thus become one of the largest onshore wind farms in Germany and is part of UKA’s extensive project portfolio totaling 11 GW in Germany.
