Danske Commodities has entered into a 10-year optimization agreement for the Windyhill BESS battery farm with a capacity of 200 MW/400 MWh. The agreement is the largest battery contract to date for the energy trading company, the company said in a press release.
The battery farm has been developed by Revera Energy with the backing of the investment company Carlyle and is being built outside Glasgow in Scotland. Commercial commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2028.
Danske Commodities will provide trading and optimization services and will use its fully automated algorithmic setup to maximize returns across the wholesale and system services markets.
- We are proud to announce Danske Commodities’ optimization agreement for Windyhill BESS. With more than 15 years of experience from the UK electricity markets, we will use our trading expertise to optimize the battery farm and contribute with the necessary flexibility for variable electricity generation. The UK is a core market for us, and we look forward to continuing to expand our portfolio of flexible energy, says Jakob Sørensen, CEO of Danske Commodities.
Last year, the company entered into an optimization agreement for the Danish energy park Kvosted of 200 MWh. According to the press release, Danske Commodities manages a contract portfolio of 16 GW of renewable and flexible energy in Europe.
- We expect increasing demand from customers who need help managing flexible services. This includes batteries and other energy plants that can be started, charged or shut down depending on what creates the highest return, says Jakob Sørensen
