Interest in developing and demonstrating new energy technology in Denmark remains high. When the deadline for applying for the first application round of the year from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP) expired on 25 February, 82 projects had applied for a total of 804 million DKK. This is a large oversubscription, as this round 'only' distributes 384 million DKK, the EUDP states in a press release.
The funds are divided into three pools. The general pool amounts to 260 million DKK and covers the development and demonstration of all types of innovative energy technologies. Support for international cooperation and knowledge sharing under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA) can also be sought here.
In addition, there are two special pools: Smart Energy and Digitalisation with 25 million DKK and the Pyrolysis Pool with 99 million DKK. The former is aimed at digital solutions and increased data use in the energy sector, while the Pyrolysis Pool is intended to promote the technological maturation of pyrolysis.
The 82 applications are divided into 52 projects in the general EUDP pool, which are seeking a total of DKK 648 million. Eight projects have applied for DKK 34 million in the Smart Energy and Digitalisation pool, while six projects have applied for DKK 107 million in the Pyrolysis Pool. In addition, 16 IEA collaborations are seeking a total of DKK 16 million.
Energy efficiency and green electricity occupy the largest share in this application round and together account for almost half of the amount applied for. Within energy efficiency, 23 applications have been submitted for DKK 204 million, while 18 applications for green electricity are seeking a total of DKK 202 million.
An additional DKK 150 million has been applied for. DKK for projects within sustainable biomass, biogas and pyrolysis, DKK 84 million for PtX, DKK 98 million for CO2 capture, utilisation and storage, and smaller amounts for heat and heat storage, flexible electricity use and digitalisation.
The applications will now be assessed by the EUDP's independent board, which is expected to make a decision in June 2026. Since the start of the programme in 2007, EUDP has awarded DKK 7.3 billion to more than 1,400 projects.
