NKT has just announced that the company is investing in the NKT T3600 cable plough, which with its 3,600 horsepower will become the world's most powerful cable plough. The new plough is capable of burying submarine cables up to 5.5 meters below the seabed. The aim of the new acquisition is to optimize the installation of submarine cables, which play a central role in the transition to renewable energy and maintaining a high level of security of supply.

The investment is part of a broader effort to increase the capacity for the production and installation of high-voltage cables and is an extension of the company's new cable vessel, NKT Eleonora. The cable plough is equipped with jetting and cutting functions, so it can operate in varied seabed conditions.

- It is more important than ever to protect the cable infrastructure due to the current risk of sabotage and high levels of activity at sea. The NKT T3600 will ensure reliable burial of cables in even the most challenging seabed conditions. The cable plow is also part of our ongoing preparations to be able to produce and install cable systems with long cable lengths, says Darren Fennell, Executive Vice President and Head of HV Solutions at NKT, in a press release.

In addition to protecting the cables from external influences, the cable plow also helps to minimize the environmental impact of installation, the company says. NKT T3600 is expected to be in operation from 2027. NKT did not disclose the purchase price.
