On Friday morning, one of the wind turbines on the dam north of FMC Cheminova in Rønland, south of Thyborøn, broke when approximately two-thirds of a blade broke off. High tide has made it impossible to examine the damage. It writes Dagbladet Holstebro-Struer.
According to Siemens, it is the first time that a blade on this type of turbine has broken, says Knud Vrist, chairman of Rønland Wind Farm.
The 22-year-old Siemens turbine was built in 2003 and is designed to withstand wind gusts of up to almost 60 meters per second. The turbine is normally stopped at 25 meters per second, but on Friday the wind was much lower.
Knud Vrist says that the high tide makes it impossible to reach the turbine, and Siemens cannot therefore investigate the circumstances of the accident. Access to the dam is blocked for safety reasons.
Rønland Wind Farm consists of both Siemens and Vestas turbines. One of the original Vestas turbines was removed to make room for a new and larger 15 MW turbine at Sydhavnen in Thyborøn. This new turbine is among the most powerful in Denmark and represents a major step in the development of wind power.
