After uncertainty about the project due to the pause in the open door scheme, which has now been brought under control for Aflandshage Wind Farm, the Hofor-owned coastal offshore wind turbine project is now back on track.
Now, Hofor has, among other things, found the supplier of the most important element in the project, namely the turbines. The choice has fallen on Siemens Gamesa, which will thus deliver a total of 26 11 MW offshore wind turbines to the wind farm - as well as be responsible for the first 15 years of service. This is stated by Hofor in a statement.
- I look forward to our collaboration with Siemens Gamesa to create Aflandshage Wind Farm. Within a few years, we can secure large amounts of green electricity for the region around Øresund, where we know that the need will only increase in the coming years. We are not quite there yet, as we still need final approval of the project's financial framework from our owner, the Municipality of Copenhagen, but today we have taken an important step towards the green transition in the Øresund region, says Henrik Plougmann Olsen, CEO of HOFOR.
The supplier, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, is also delighted to be part of the important offshore wind turbine project in Øresund.
- Siemens Gamesa is a global market leader in offshore wind with strong roots in Denmark, and for Aflandshage we look forward to installing 26 of our 11 MW wind turbines in Danish waters. Here they will reduce more than 1 million tons of CO2 emissions each year, which is equivalent to planting more than 17 million trees, says Mogens Jakobsen, global sales manager for offshore wind, Siemens Gamesa.
The Danish wind shipping company Cadeler will also assist with the transport and installation of the wind farm.
Could be ready in a few years
The work of conducting seabed surveys in Øresund is in full swing. This will pave the way for construction work at sea to begin in 2025, when cables will initially be laid and turbine foundations will be set up.
At the same time, work is being carried out on Avedøre Holme at Avedøreværket, where the electricity from Aflandshage Wind Farm will come ashore. Here, cables are being laid and a transformer station is being built.
According to the plan, the new offshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa are to be installed so that Aflandshage Wind Farm can be in full operation in 2026.
