COPHEN (FRA): One of the last stones on the road to the construction of the Aflandshage Wind Farm in Øresund has now been cleared. The Danish Energy Agency has now approved Hofor's application to establish the offshore wind farm, which will be located in the southern Øresund in an area approximately ten km from the southern tip of Amager and a good eight km from the northeastern tip of Stevns. This is stated by Hofor in a press release.
The wind farm will consist of 26 offshore wind turbines with a total height of up to 220 meters to the top blade tip. The project has a total effect of 300 MW and will be able to supply up to 300,000 households with green electricity.
- I am proud that Hofor, with Aflandshage Wind Farm, can help ensure that the capital area can lead the way in the green transition, says Susanne Juhl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hofor.
Two hearings
The establishment permit was granted on the basis of a public hearing that ran over the summer. This is the second time that the public has been consulted about Aflandshage Wind Farm. The first hearing was conducted over the winter of 2021/2022 and was about the project's environmental impact assessment.
Since the first hearing, Hofor has made a number of choices, partly based on the concerns and suggestions.
Among others. Based on the consultations, the company has chosen the largest possible turbines that the environmental study allows, as it was requested in the consultation responses that there should be as few turbines as possible. There is also a focus on creating foundations that make it possible to create an artificial reef around the turbines for the benefit of marine biology in Øresund and Køge Bay.
In addition, the wind farm's transformer station will be located on land at Avedøreværket - and not at sea. This means that there will be no large, permanent construction in the turbine area.
The number of consultation responses to the second consultation round has also been significantly fewer than the first. Here, the Danish Energy Agency has received 64 consultation responses compared to 91 in the first round. Susanne Juhl believes that this is an expression of the dialogue that has worked and that it has provided the basis for a good process.
- At the same time, I am pleased that we have been in dialogue with citizens and neighboring municipalities through two consultation processes, and that it is possible to meet at least some of the concerns that have been raised.
The concerns in the consultation responses have mainly concerned a visual impact and the possible impact on bird migration across Øresund.
Political support
The process and approval also bring joy to the office of the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, as the wind farm can contribute to the municipality's climate ambitions.
- In Copenhagen, we have set a number of ambitious goals to make the capital greener. We are working very hard to become CO2neutral as quickly as possible. And with the aim of becoming a climate-positive capital in 2035. That's why I'm really happy that Hofor will create large amounts of new, green and renewable energy with Aflandshage Wind Farm, which will benefit the green transition and consumers in the Capital Region and the Øresund Region, says Sophie Hæstorp Andersen (S), Lord Mayor of Copenhagen.
According to the plan, Aflandshage Wind Farm will be fully operational in 2026.
