A new offshore wind farm near the Øresund has come a step closer. The Danish Energy Agency has given its thumbs up to the environmental impact report prepared for the Aflandshage Wind Farm, which will be located between the southern tip of Amager and Stevns, the agency announced in a press release.
Hofor Vind (Hofor) is behind the possible wind farm. The utility company plans to erect 25-45 offshore wind turbines with an installed capacity of up to 300 MW within an area of approximately 42 km2. The turbines will have a maximum height of up to 220 m and the distance to the coast will be at least eight km.
However, the agency emphasizes that approval of the feasibility study report does not give Hofor permission to build the offshore wind farm, but only the opportunity to proceed to the next steps in the application process, including applying for an establishment permit.
"The Danish Energy Agency will only make a final decision on whether an establishment permit can be granted for the project once a public hearing has been conducted on the application for an establishment permit based on the now approved environmental impact report," the Danish Energy Agency says.
Hofor is pleased with the approval.
- We will now work on the final approval, and I would like to emphasize that it is an important task for us to continue the dialogue with the citizens, organizations and municipalities who have expressed concern in connection with the consultation process. HOFOR expects to apply to the Danish Energy Agency for an actual establishment permit as soon as possible, which will also be subject to a public hearing, says Henrik Plougmann Olsen, CEO of HOFOR.
Hofor hopes that Aflandshage Wind Farm can deliver its first electricity in 2025.
