MARTEC – Maritime and Polytechnic College has received a donation of DKK 500,000 from the Nord Energi Foundation to establish a new high-voltage area in the school's laboratories. The investment is intended to strengthen the education of future machinists and marine engineers and contribute to the green transition in the energy sector. This is stated by Nord Energi in a press release.
The new high-voltage laboratory will provide students with practical training in the operation, maintenance and safe handling of high-voltage systems, which are increasingly in demand in line with electrification, renewable energy and energy storage.
- This support makes it possible to create a teaching environment that reflects real-world energy systems. Our students get hands-on experience with technology that they encounter directly in the energy industry, and this significantly strengthens their professional readiness, says Anders Skjødt Hansen, assistant professor at MARTEC in the mechanical engineering program.
The project includes, among other things, switchgear, relay protection and circuit breakers as well as a generator for emergency power operation and a battery storage system (BESS) for energy storage and grid stabilization. The teaching will combine theory and practical work.
Around 100 students are expected to receive training annually in the facilities that are being developed in collaboration with the energy industry. The facility will also support collaboration with companies on practical issues and strengthen the supply of skills to the energy sector in North Jutland.
The new facilities are expected to be ready for use in February 2027.
