The wind industry has clearly indicated that the current testing conditions do not meet the industry's needs. Therefore, the hunt has begun for a location for a third test center in Denmark.
Now, a majority in the Danish Parliament has reached agreement on a targeted screening of three areas in Denmark that are potentially suitable for the location of a third, national test center for wind turbines. The areas include the municipalities of Brønderslev, Jammerbugt, Esbjerg and Tønder. This is stated by the Ministry of the Interior and Housing in a statement.
The agreement was concluded on the basis of a comprehensive mapping of Denmark carried out by the Housing and Planning Agency under the Ministry of the Interior and Housing in close dialogue with Green Power Denmark, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, the Danish Energy Agency and DTU Wind Energy, which is an institute under the Technical University of Denmark.
- The government, together with the governments of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, has set an ambitious goal of tenfolding the capacity of offshore wind towards 2050. If we are to meet this ambition, it requires that the wind industry has good framework conditions for testing and demonstrating the large offshore turbines of the future, and therefore we are now initiating a thorough investigation of possible locations for a new test center, says Minister of the Interior and Housing Christian Rabjerg Madsen.
When the result of the targeted screening is available, the parties to the agreement will consider the possibilities for establishing a third, national test center for large windmills.
Behind the agreement on the screening of the areas are the government, the Liberal Party, the Danish People's Party, the Socialist People's Party, the Radical Left, the Conservative People's Party and the Liberal Alliance.
