Development of wind and solar farms for customers in the Nordic region will be the product of Towii Renewables, a newly established joint venture between Danish Ewii and Japanese Tokyo Gas. Together, the parties will work towards making Denmark and the Triangle region stronger in the export area. The company aims to develop a total of one GW of renewable energy by 2030, Ewii states in a press release.
- Denmark has a recognized position within renewable energy, and during the negotiations with Tokyo Gas it has become clear that Tokyo Gas and EWII have a common agenda of contributing to global climate protection, says Lars Bonderup Bjørn, CEO of Ewii.
Towii Renewables is starting up in Kolding, and employs eight employees - including two Japanese immigrants. The company is established from the start with EWII's Danish wind farms in the portfolio, and Tokyo Gas will thus become a co-owner of the Danish turbines. The collaboration is the result of a long negotiation process that has spanned almost a year.
- We are incredibly happy that we have succeeded in finding common ground with such a strong company as Tokyo Gas – and are very excited that we can now combine our competencies within sustainable energy with Tokyo Gas's many years of experience in international project development for the local area, says Oliver Wolgast, who will become CEO of Towii Renewables. Until now, he has been CEO of Renewables, Trading and Production at EWII.
The ambition for the company is to eventually grow to 40 employees. Initially, it will focus on the Nordic market, but once the market position is established in the Nordics, it will also expand to the rest of Europe.
