Energi Danmark is terminating three employees who were entitled to bonuses in the triple-digit million range due to their contracts. This was announced by Andel in a press release on behalf of Andel itself, NRGI and Energi Danmark.
- Energi Danmark has experienced a serious breach of trust in the form of a number of collective, disloyal actions. We therefore have no other choice but to terminate the three employees, according to the chairman of the board of Energi Danmark, Jesper Hjulmand, and deputy chairman Jacob Vittrup in the press release.
Andel owns Energi Danmark together with NRGI.
Three-digit million bonuses
The three employees at Energi Danmark have earned three-digit million bonuses totaling over half a billion. This was revealed by Jyllands-Posten earlier in March. But it is already the clear policy at Energi Danmark that there is a cap on bonus agreements.
- The three employees' bonus agreements without a cap are invalid, and Energi Danmark will of course maintain this point of view if there should be legal repercussions, according to the chairman and vice chairman.
The press release points out that there are no employees at Energi Danmark who receive bonuses in the double or triple digit million range.
Due to the contracts, where the three employees have succeeded in earning the high bonuses, all bonus agreements at Energi Danmark must be processed and approved at the company's upcoming board meeting in May, it says.
The size of the bonuses depends on the energy market. And with rising energy prices, the industry has earned more than it usually does. That is why the bonuses during the energy crisis have become very high.
Have deleted emails
The press release states that the agreement was concluded with the company's former CEO and under collective pressure and coercion from the employees.
Energi Danmark also justifies the termination of the employees by saying that emails and documents that can shed light on the circumstances surrounding the bonus agreement from the summer of 2021, when it was concluded, have been deleted. A deletion that, according to the company, has taken place systematically. According to the company, this happened in the run-up to a meeting between the employees and Energi Danmark's presidency in March 2023.
The three employees were suspended earlier in March. Energi Danmark believes that an attempt has subsequently been made to reach an agreement through dialogue. But it has been in vain, it says.
At the end of March, lawyer Frederik Brocks, who has been hired by the three employees' union, Djøf, to handle the case, told the media outlet Finans that the employees are ready to go to court to get the bonuses paid out.
In a written response to Ritzau on Monday, Frederik Brocks calls the dismissal of the three employees a regrettable step by Energi Danmark.
- On the basis of the information available, we believe that it is an unfair dismissal. We have no further comments, it says in a written response from Djøf on behalf of Frederik Brocks to Ritzau.
