Danish energy developers consider Chinese wind turbines

Two Danish energy developers are looking to China in response to the offshore wind agreement, which they believe risks distorting competition.

The new offshore wind agreement, which opens up state aid of up to 55.2 billion DKK for three upcoming offshore wind farms, is now facing criticism for distorting competition in the Danish energy market. At Eurowind, which is one of Denmark's largest developers of onshore wind and solar energy projects, the agreement is causing concern. The company fears that the state aid will artificially push electricity prices down and thus undermine the support-free projects on land. As a consequence, Eurowind is now considering buying Chinese wind turbines to reduce costs, writes Børsen.

- We don't really want this, but we just think that the industry is forcing us to look in other directions. Because we need to lower costs now that Denmark wants to throw around 60 percent of state-subsidized energy into a market, says Jens Rasmussen, CEO of Eurowind.

The company is planning a study trip to China in the autumn. Here, the company will take a closer look at Chinese wind turbines, solar panels and electrolysis plants. Safety will be a key assessment criterion here. Wind Estate is also considering Chinese suppliers as a possible solution in light of the agreement.
