Mayor sees opportunities in many offshore wind projects around Anholt

There are plans for five large offshore wind farms relatively close to Anholt - both in Swedish and Danish waters.

NORDDJURS: Already today, 111 wind turbines can be spotted from the Kattegat island of Anholt. But that sight could soon be joined by a couple of hundred additional rotating energy giants, writes TV2 Østjylland.

There are five large offshore wind farms in the vicinity of the Kattegat island of Anholt on the drawing board.

- It's a really interesting perspective, says Norddjurs Municipality Mayor Kasper Bjerregaard. Referring to the many jobs that the projects will bring.

Among the Danish projects, the Hesselø Wind Farm is the furthest along. 67 turbines with a height of 268 meters have been screened. If it becomes a reality, those turbines alone will be able to supply electricity to 1.1 million Danish households per year, the Danish Energy Agency estimates.

Anholt is the outermost bastion before the waters change from Danish to Swedish territory. And almost on the other side, the Swedes have big plans. Three areas have been drawn as possible offshore wind farms. These are both the areas Galene and Galatea in Kattegat, and then the energy company Vattenfall's project Store Middelgrund.

Here, Mayor Kasper Bjerregaard (V) emphasizes that even though it is Swedish territory, Norddjurs Municipality will be given the opportunity to submit consultation responses.

- I am in favor of wind power on water. All plants go through screening processes to assess environmental considerations, and I am very comfortable with that, and we will raise the flag if there is anything problematic, he says.
