The two Danish companies Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime have been selected as preferred suppliers of two offshore substations for a large Polish offshore wind turbine project called Baltic Power, which is a joint venture between ORLEN Group and Northland Power Inc. The companies announced this in a joint press release.

The two substations will be manufactured and established in 2022-2025 as essential parts of the electrical infrastructure of the wind farm, which will consist of more than 70 turbines with a minimum capacity of 14 MW each. The steel structures for each substation will weigh 2.5 tons and will be placed on foundations, so that the structure reaches a height of about 20 meters above sea level.

The Bladt and Semco consortium will be responsible for engineering, procurement, manufacturing and installation of the two offshore substations. Together, Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime are experienced suppliers of substations for offshore wind farms. Together, the companies have manufactured and commissioned more than 20 substations for offshore wind farms.

Bladt Industries focuses exclusively on offshore wind projects and has many years of experience in manufacturing steel structures for offshore substations, transition pieces, as well as monopile and jacket foundations in Poland and Denmark. Semco Maritime has created a strong position and unique competencies in the development, manufacturing and commissioning of substations for offshore wind projects based on decades of experience from the offshore market.

- The Baltic Power project is another milestone in the development of renewable energy in Poland, and we are proud that ORLEN Group and Northland Power have signed the contract and chosen our long-standing strategic partner Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime as preferred suppliers, says Steen Brødbæk, CEO, Semco Maritime.

The Baltic Power wind farm will be built about 23 kilometers from the coast near ?eba and Choczewo. When the project is completed in 2026, the Baltic Power wind farm will be able to supply clean energy to more than 1.5 million households.

- Baltic Power continues to follow the plan and has selected suppliers with extensive experience and are ready to take on a significant part of the work in Poland. This is very important for us as an investor because it contributes to creating a local value chain in offshore wind, as each of these companies is already actively looking for subcontractors in Poland,” says Jarosław Broda, member of the management of Baltic Power.
