There is a high demand for labor in general in Denmark, and the need is also great in the offshore industry. For companies based in Esbjerg alone, the recruitment need is currently estimated to be up to 5,000 people, the industry organization Dansk Offshore states in a statement.

Part of the solution to the recruitment problem in Esbjerg, however, appears to have been found in a collaboration between the Danish Labour Market and Recruitment Agency (STAR), AMU-Vest, the job centers, Dansk Offshore and the companies Altrad, Semco Maritime and Q-Star.

This week, the partners held an information meeting about jobs in the offshore industry at AMU-Vest in Esbjerg. 70 interested job seekers showed up here and almost 40 of them left with an employer's statement that sends them on to a seven-week qualifying course in scaffolding and surface treatment, respectively.

Immediately after completing the training, the unemployed can be sent on to jobs at companies such as Altrad and Semco Maritime and a number of other offshore employers who are currently hungry for labor.

- We dare to call the collaboration and the information meeting a great success. It was a great turnout and a very satisfying result to have so many people sent on to our courses. We can see that holding these information meetings is an effective way to create contact between job seekers and employers, giving all parties the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification, says Torben Pedersen, director of AMU-Vest.

Also, executive director at the Danish Labour Market and Recruitment Agency, Trine Søndergård Knudsen, is happy with the collaboration and the results it seems to be bringing.

- It was an overwhelming turnout we saw at the information meeting about jobs in the offshore industry in Esbjerg. Some of the participants came from far away, and there is no doubt that the collaboration we have established between educational institutions, job centres and companies is hitting the right notes, says Trine Søndergaard Knudsen.
