Karsten Buchhave was honored last week with the Gas Flame of the Year award during the Green Gas Days for his many years of contribution to the development of the biogas industry in Denmark and internationally. The award is sponsored by Biogas Danmark, Green Gas Denmark and Ida Energi. This is stated in a press release by Biogas Danmark.

At the award ceremony, Bruno Sander Nielsen from Biogas Danmark highlighted Karsten Buchhave's importance for the development of Danish biogas since the 1980s. The speech emphasized Karsten Buchhave's commitment to the industry and his importance in placing Danish biogas in an international leading position. Bruno Sander Nielsen also pointed to the establishment of Bigadan in 1984, where Karsten Buchhave was employed as executive secretary with a view to later taking over the management of the company. The management takeover took place in 1986, and under Karsten Buchhave's leadership, Bigadan grew from building plants in Denmark to also developing projects in, among others, Armenia, Israel and the USA. At the same time, he helped build the first Danish biogas group through takeovers of plants in, among others, Fangel, Herning, Bornholm, Nysted, Horsens, Mors, Kalundborg and Solrød.

- Karsten Buchhave has helped shape the Danish biogas industry over several decades. He has not only been a pioneer in the development of biogas plants in Denmark, but has also helped bring Danish biogas solutions to the world. At the same time, he has helped drive the development forward - from the early plants to today's focus on green gas for transport, CCS and CCU. That is why he is a very worthy recipient of the Gas Flame of the Year 2026, says Bruno Sander Nielsen, professional director of Biogas Danmark.
