Among five Danish business leaders who were nominated for the "Sustainability Leader of the Year" award, the choice fell on the Port of Aarhus's operations director Anne Zachariassen on Thursday. The award was presented at the Sustain Awards 2021 in Copenhagen, writes the Port of Aarhus in a press release.
The criteria for winning the award were that as a leader, you have set a new and more ambitious sustainable direction for the company in the past year, and it was also a requirement that you have made a measurable difference as a leader in relation to sustainability.
The nominations for the award came after the editorial team at Sustain Report asked several leading figures from the Danish sustainability community which leader in 2021 has particularly excelled in the work with sustainability and the green transition, and among the nominees, Anne Zachariassen was thus designated as the best.
- Until a few years ago, I was of the opinion that if we just chose the right technological solutions and otherwise behaved sensibly, then it would probably work. But then I realized that the climate situation is very critical, and if we are to succeed in turning the situation around, the world's companies must take action, and we must get politicians to act in parallel, said Anne Zachariassen from the podium.
In recent years, the Port of Aarhus has, among other things, introduced discounts for green ships, established shore power for Molslinjen's ferries and recently decided to invest in shore power for cruise ships. In addition, the port is now illuminated with LED. Finally, Anne Zachariassen is working to increase biodiversity both on land with flowering areas and at sea with biohuts that will increase the fish population in the port.
