Employees from Vestas in Ringkøbing, Lem and Videbæk will strike on Thursday morning after unsatisfactory collective bargaining negotiations. This was confirmed by the trade union 3F to TV Midtvest.

- The employees are dissatisfied with wage negotiations and have therefore chosen to stop work, despite the fact that it is what we call an illegal work stoppage, says Henning Boye Christensen from 3F Ringkøbing.

He is not present at Vestas' factories himself. But he says that the employees have positioned themselves in front of the gates to the entrances to the factories, where they refuse to start work.

At the factory in Ringkøbing, where Vestas produces the wind turbine engine houses - also called nacelles - there are, according to TV Midtvest, 200 employees who have positioned themselves in front of the gates to the entrances.

Strike that violates the collective agreement

A local union representative is currently in the process of informing the employees that the strike is in violation of the collective agreement.

- Our union representative is currently busy informing them that what they are doing is illegal and that they must continue working.

- They can be fined for every day the company loses their workforce, says Henning Boye Christensen.

The reason why the strike is in violation of the collective agreement is because the parties to the collective agreement agree that that work can only be stopped if an agreement cannot be reached on a collective agreement. And since the central parties have reached an agreement on the collective agreement, the strike is, so to speak, illegal.

The collective agreement that the employees are dissatisfied with is a so-called central collective agreement on minimum wages.

This means that several parties, including the Confederation of Danish Industry, 3F and HK, have negotiated a central collective agreement on where the minimum wage should be. After that, it is up to the individual shop stewards at the individual companies to negotiate wages locally at each company.

Globally, Vestas employs 29,000 employees, and approximately 6,000 of them work in Denmark.
