Valmont SM has entered into a multi-year trade agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy to produce components for offshore wind turbines. Specifically, Valmont will produce rotor housings, but the manufacturer does not disclose how many and how long the agreement will last, although it does state that the agreement is the largest single order in the company's history.
Valmont SM is pleased with the agreement with Siemens Gamesa, with whom it has been trading for over twenty years.
- For many years we have worked closely with Siemens Gamesa, and this agreement is a natural extension of our strong partnership, which we are very pleased with, says Niels Brix, CEO of Valmont SM.
Sustainable development is crucial
In recent years, Valmont SM has developed advanced robotic technology for, among other things, surface treatment of components for offshore wind turbines. This technology has resulted in an annual reduction in coating material consumption of approximately 366 tons and an annual CO2 reduction of 8,500 tons, and this has been instrumental in the contract being awarded to Valmont, says Global Commodity Manager at Siemens Gamesa, Mark Don Hansen.
- Valmont SM's numerous sustainable initiatives in terms of reducing CO2 emissions in our supply chain were a decisive factor in entering into our partnership, says Mark Don Hansen. He continues:
- Valmont and Siemens Gamesa are a perfect match for a long-term, cross-sectoral development of rotor housings for the offshore wind industry.
The new partnership agreement also enables Siemens Gamesa to source European-produced components close to the ports that will be used for shipping.
