All companies that want to supply Ørsted must have converted their energy supply to come exclusively from renewable energy sources by 2025.
Ørsted has so far only set the requirement for 100 percent renewable energy for strategic suppliers, an ambition that was presented in 2020, but from 2025 the energy company expects all its suppliers to meet this requirement. This makes Ørsted the first energy company in the world to set requirements for its suppliers in this field, the company said in a press release.
- We have transformed Ørsted into a global leader in renewable energy, and it is our clear position that companies must demand scientifically based climate action from each other, says Mads Nipper, CEO and Managing Director of Ørsted. He adds:
- We greatly appreciate the efforts of all existing and new suppliers who share our ambitions and will commit to using 100 percent renewable energy. We look forward to working together to achieve this goal as soon as possible and to setting a new standard for the renewable energy industry.
With the new goal, Ørsted expects all its suppliers to cover 100 percent of their electricity consumption with renewable energy by, for example, investing in renewable energy assets on sites, entering into power purchase agreements (PPAs) tied to renewable energy projects whose implementation depends on securing financing, or purchasing renewable energy certificates.
